The Toyota Prius Hybrid AWD-e is equipped with an additional electric motor on the rear axle, which is engaged when starting from a standstill, as well as at speeds up to 69 km/h if the system 'senses' a lack of traction with the road.

The electric motor is powered by a new nickel-metal hydride battery pack, which was developed with consideration for operation in low-temperature conditions. The pack is located under the rear row of seats and does not limit free space in the cabin.

The facelift brought the Prius modified bumpers, as well as modernized front and rear lighting.
