Details about the new SUV are still kept secret. As Autocar reports, the future Land Rover Defender will be built on an aluminum platform. The car will receive a significant portion of components and technical solutions from the current models of the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) alliance.

Meanwhile, Motoring reported that customers will be offered three- and five-door modifications with open and closed tops, a luxury version, and a variant for serious off-roading. The engine lineup of the new model will include two-liter gasoline and diesel turbocharged units with four cylinders, as well as three-liter V6s. The appearance of an electric version is also not ruled out.

In addition, a pickup truck based on the Land Rover Defender may appear. It was previously stated that such a vehicle is being considered as a rival to the Model X. Under its hood will be gasoline and diesel two-liter engines from the Ingenium line. It is likely that the car will go on sale only with a single cab. The pickup will have many variants, including luxurious ones. Assembly will be organized at the Slovak plant.

Production of the current Land Rover Defender ended in January 2016. The British manufacturer postponed the removal of the "veteran" from the assembly line several times: first it was planned to stop it in December 2015, but then the deadlines were moved.
