The new model is based on the modular chassis of the Volkswagen concern called MQB A, which already underlies, for example, the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. The overall length of the crossover is 4735 mm, height is 1658 mm, and the wheelbase is 2800 millimeters.

Seat Tarraco will be available with both five- and seven-seat interiors. The trunk volume for the five-seat modification is 760 liters, and with the rear seats folded down it increases to 2000 liters.

At the start of sales, the crossover will be available with four engines. The base version will get a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 150 hp, front-wheel drive, and a six-speed manual transmission. In addition, a two-liter 190-horsepower unit will be offered, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive.

The diesel range is represented by two-liter engines producing 150 and 190 horsepower. All variants with heavy fuel engines are equipped with all-wheel drive. In the future, the crossover should get a version with a hybrid powertrain.

Seat Tarraco has received a new safety function Rollover Assist: if the electronics detect a real threat of the vehicle rolling over, it will automatically unlock the doors, turn off the engine, and make a call to emergency services.

The new model will be available with a fully digital instrument panel Virtual Cockpit. In addition, the list of electronic assistants for the crossover includes adaptive suspension, a forward collision warning system with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring.

Sales of the Seat Tarraco will start before the end of 2018. Production of the large crossover will be set up at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
