The decrease in power is explained by the transition to the new WLTP emissions measurement methodology, which has been in effect in Europe since September 2018, replacing the previous NEDC standard.

The power of the two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been reduced from 300 to 290 horsepower. As a result, the hot hatch has been renamed from Leon Cupra 300 to Leon Cupra 290.

There is no data yet on how the loss of power has affected the car's dynamics. The version with the 300-horsepower engine accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, and the top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h.
