Tesla CEO Elon Musk told the British press about the company's plans. He confirmed that the new electric crossover will be based on the same platform as the Model 3 hatchback (pictured) to speed up the process of launching mass production.

Most likely, the postponement of the new model's premiere is explained by the manufacturer's record losses, which exceeded $700 million in the first months of this year. The financial losses are largely related to difficulties in organizing the production of the affordable Model 3 electric car, which forced the plant to stop the assembly line for several days for an urgent upgrade of production capacities.

The modernization will clearly not hurt Tesla's California plant in Fremont, especially given last year's leak that 90% of the electric cars produced there have certain defects.
