Both models received minor exterior changes, wheels of a different design, and a new steering wheel. In addition, the hatchback got turn signals in the rearview mirror housings.

Technical improvements were limited to the introduction of the proprietary G-Vectoring Control system, which provides more comfortable vehicle handling, previously available for the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 models.

The list of options was expanded with LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a set of active safety systems that warn of collisions and recognize pedestrians and road signs.
