The company positions the roadster as the successor to the D8 RS sports car, which set a record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2005 (completed the track in 7 minutes 14.89 seconds). The Donkervoort D8 GTO-RS will be "meaner, more extreme, and slightly larger than the standard model." Judging by the photos, the new model will feature a slightly modified front end and an upgraded aerodynamic body kit.

The sports car will be equipped with the same 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine from Audi with an optimized engine management system developed jointly with Bosch. The engine's characteristics and the roadster's dynamics have not yet been specified, but Donkervoort noted that "the driver will enjoy improved acceleration and handling." The current most extreme version of the D8 GTO – Bilster Berg – is equipped with a 380-horsepower 2.5 engine. The sports car accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and its top speed is 270 kilometers per hour.

The public premiere of the new roadster will take place in the summer of 2016. In total, Donkervoort will produce 40 units of the D8 GTO-RS, with the price of each starting from 151,200 euros. Currently, the company has received orders for 21 cars.
