The company has long been thinking about expanding the A8 model line to break the hegemony of the S-Class. As part of this, an extended version and a coupe should appear. Currently, the A8 is produced in two versions: regular and extended, and regular. The S-Class, however, can be bought in coupe, convertible, and four other variants.

Speaking at the launch of the SQ7 model, the brand's development director Stefan Knirsch noted that expanding the A8 model range is under discussion. "We are thinking about it. The success of the extra-long version of the S-Class has made us think whether producing a similar model could become our business case in the near future," said Knirsch.

Recall that a six-door A8 on an extra-long wheelbase was already shown in early 2016, but then company officials stated that the car was created in a single copy under a special order from one of the clients.

Knirsch also confirmed that the next generation A8 will be equipped with an autonomous driving system, meaning the driver will be able to take their hands off the wheel for a longer period than now. "We are working on the new A8 to show you a new level of autopilot," noted the brand's development director.
