This is how the city authorities are trying to teach drivers not to exceed the speed limit, as reported by radio station KYW. At about a hundred city intersections, images made with modern materials have been applied. When approaching them, motorists get the feeling that an obstacle is installed right in front of them. The pictures look so realistic that many drivers noticeably slow down before crossing such an "imaginary" barrier.
In addition, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is going to initiate a separate study of the issue: it is planned to find out whether such methods as three-dimensional images on the asphalt really help reduce the number of accidents and make drivers keep their speed within the permitted limits.
