New models will expand the existing lineup of A- and B-class cars.

As stated by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Daimler AG, which includes Mercedes-Benz, the vehicles being developed are aimed at different categories of buyers, but will use key technical solutions from the A-Class, including the modular platform with a double floor, known as the "sandwich." These cars will get new 4-cylinder diesel engines announced by the company in 2008.

Mercedes-Benz has not yet shared other details, but it is already known that the German manufacturer is preparing front-wheel-drive models, among which a "sporty three-door version, a compact crossover, a microvan, and a five-door car" are expected.
