According to the updated traffic rules, in cities and towns drivers are now allowed to drive no faster than 50 kilometers per hour.

This innovation is part of a set of measures aimed at reducing the number of accident victims on Ukrainian roads. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved other amendments as well, some of which are yet to be approved by the Verkhovna Rada — according to forecasts, this will happen in 2018.

Thus, the government proposes to tighten liability for accidents while intoxicated, increasing the prison term to 3-12 years and simultaneously revoking driving licenses. In addition, it is planned to raise fines for driving without a license and for speeding. If a driver exceeds the permissible limit by more than 50 km/h within the boundaries of a populated area, they face a fine of 3400 hryvnias, whereas previously this amount was only 510 hryvnias.
