Seven cars made it to the shortlist, six of which are electric: Cupra Born, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Renault Megane E-Tech, and Skoda Enyaq iV. The seventh participant was the new Peugeot 308, which does not yet have an electric version, but a hybrid version is available.

Interestingly, the Cupra Born hatchback made it to the list of contenders, although it is essentially a reworked Volkswagen ID.3, which also reached the finals last year. The Skoda Enyaq iV crossover is based on the same MEB platform, but at least it has its own body and offers all-wheel-drive options. Meanwhile, the finalists Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 share the E-GMP platform and nearly identical internals.

The name of the Car of the Year 2022 winner will be announced at the end of February. Initially, the award ceremony was planned to coincide with the start of the Geneva Motor Show, but the exhibition will not take place next year, so the organizers will have to hold the ceremony as a separate event. Last year, the Toyota Yaris hatchback won the Car of the Year 2021 title.
