As the company's head reported, over the next twelve months the model range will be expanded with a new generation of the Leon hatchback, a small city car (apparently based on the VW Up! minicar), another four-door sedan, as well as a noticeably modernized version of the Ibiza.
"Relying on current models, we plan to increase Seat's sales volumes by eight to ten percent from the current 340 thousand cars. This year we hope to sell 45 thousand Ibiza ST station wagons and about 20 thousand Alhambra minivans, demand for which has already exceeded our expectations. This confirms that the brand is strengthening its position," noted Muir. Further sales growth will be facilitated by new products, with particular hopes placed on an inexpensive minicar.
Due to the projected growth in consumer demand, Seat plans to expand its workforce by 300–800 people by the end of this year. Currently, the Spanish automaker employs 13.5 thousand people worldwide.
To meet the requirements of the Volkswagen Group, Seat must double sales by 2018 — to 800 thousand cars annually — and return to profitability. Last year, the Spanish brand recorded losses of 311 million euros, but management hopes the company will become profitable as early as 2013.
In 2012, Seat will release four new models
Next year, Seat plans to introduce four new models, according to Automotive News Europe, citing a statement by the head of the Spanish brand, James Muir.
