Instead of allowing new gas stations to appear, city authorities prefer to develop a network of charging points for electric vehicles. As local media write, the municipality has even vetoed the repair and relocation of existing gas stations. In the future, the authorities plan to turn these facilities into charging stations.

It is noteworthy that the ban on building gas stations became the first step in world practice aimed at pushing buyers to choose electric cars. Previously, different cities used familiar and already tested methods: banning cars with internal combustion engines from entering the center and business districts, monetary compensation from the municipality for purchasing electric cars, free parking spaces, and the like.

Probably, other cities may soon follow the example of Petaluma. However, it should be taken into account that this locality is located in the most environmentally oriented state of the USA, which is also the birthplace of Tesla. The interests of manufacturers and owners of electric vehicles have long been actively promoted there.
