In particular, last year in New York, USA, a large number of thefts of side mirrors from Porsche, Lexus, Mercedes, BMW were recorded. But in the Netherlands, for example, mirrors are actively stolen from Tesla cars. In Amsterdam alone, over the past weekend, 20 cars of the Californian brand suffered at the hands of criminals, with most of them being Model 3 sedans.

The choice of premium cars, in particular Tesla, by criminals is not accidental: the fact is that in the housings of side mirrors of such cars, sensors of various systems are often hidden - in the case of Teslas, these are built-in cameras that record the surroundings of the vehicle. And it is these electrical components that car thieves are hunting for.
In Ukraine, the chance of this type of car theft appearing is especially high: Tesla electric cars are in good demand in our country, and they are often imported used from the USA. According to the latest data, about 1,900 Tesla cars are currently driving on Ukrainian roads.
However, it is not yet clear where criminals sell or intend to sell such complex equipment.
By the way, earlier AutoPortal reported why catalysts are stolen from cars.
