According to the data provided, the Ukrainian car fleet is distributed extremely unevenly by vehicle age. The freshest cars are driven in Kyiv, where the average figure reaches 11.2 years, as well as in the Zakarpattia and Lviv regions — there this parameter is 14.7 years.
In the capital, this situation is explained by the greater financial capabilities of residents and a developed market for new cars. In the west of the country, however, the key role is played by proximity to the border — through it, the lion's share of used European cars are imported, whose average age does not exceed 8.4 years.
The oldest cars are in the south and east
The highest average age of vehicles is observed in the Kherson region — 19.3 years, and in the Donetsk region — 19.2 years. The reasons for this are quite clear: economic instability and security risks, including military actions, partial occupation of territories, and an almost complete lack of fleet renewal. Statistics for the Luhansk region and annexed Crimea could not be collected.
Ukraine compared to Europe
To understand the scale: in EU countries, the average age of a car remains at about 12 years. This highlights a significant difference between our market and the European one — in Ukraine, the share of new cars is much smaller, the purchasing power of the population is lower, and the bulk of sales is formed by the secondary segment.
An indicator of fleet health
The average age of cars put up for sale serves as a reliable marker of the overall state of the country's car fleet. Regional differences — relatively fresh cars in Kyiv and western regions versus significantly older ones in the south and east — show both the level of income of the population and the specifics of import flows.
In simple terms, the domestic market offers exactly what it owns: mostly long-exploited cars, and the influx of new models is constrained by limited demand.
