In the largest automotive markets of the European Union in May, there was mixed dynamics: the Spanish market grew by 7.2%, the British one by 3.4%, while in Germany sales fell by 5.8%, and in Italy by 2.8%.
Germany again took first place in Europe in terms of car sales volume, selling 305,057 passenger cars in a month.
In second place was the United Kingdom, where 192,649 cars were bought in May.
The top three is closed by Italy with 199,113 cars sold.
Among European automakers, VW Group maintains its leadership, having sold 350,894 cars in the EU markets, which is 4.2% more than in May last year.
Second place belongs to PSA Group — 223,582 cars sold, which is 58% higher than the result of a year ago.
Third is Renault Group with 161,672 cars sold (an increase of 6.4%).
Overall, in the first five months of 2018, 6,879,885 new passenger cars were registered in the European Union countries — this is 2.4% more than in the same period last year. Almost all key markets showed positive dynamics: Spain grew by 10.6%, France by 3.5%, Germany by 2.6%. At the same time, demand in the United Kingdom decreased by 6.8%. Additionally, it is noted that the EU states that joined the union recently showed significant growth of 11.6% during the reporting period.
