The new model called Ford Police Interceptor is expected to debut next year.

The police car will get a hybrid powertrain. Other technical characteristics of the new model are kept secret. In the teaser image, you can only see a special police livery, as well as flashing lights on the roof and front of the Explorer.
As for the standard version of the new-generation Explorer, its premiere may take place at the auto show in Detroit in 2019. The sixth-generation SUV will be based on the new modular rear-wheel-drive CD6 architecture. The engine lineup will include the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four, which in the current model produces 284 horsepower. The current 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, producing 294 horsepower, will be replaced by a new, more powerful unit with a displacement of 3.3 liters.
