Last month, all major European Union car markets positively influenced the overall statistics. Double-digit growth rates were shown by the Spanish market (+12.3%) and the British one (+10.4%), while the indicators of France (+9.0%), Germany (+8.0%), and Italy (+6.5%) were slightly more modest.
Germany again became the leader among European platforms in terms of sales volume, with 314,055 passenger cars sold during the month.
France took the second position — residents of the country bought 187,390 cars in April.
Italy closes the top three with a result of 171,379 sold cars.
Among manufacturers, VW Group took the first line, as usual, selling 335,518 cars in the EU markets, which is 13.8% more than in April last year.
The second place went to PSA Group with a volume of 212,534 sold cars — this is 70% higher than the result of April 2017.
RENAULT Group became third in the number of sold cars — 140,562 units, an increase of 9.7%.
In the first four months of 2018, 5,478,442 new passenger cars were registered in the European Union countries, which is 2.7% more than in the same period a year earlier. Almost all major markets showed an increase in registrations: in Spain (+11.0%), Germany (+5.0%), and France (+4.4%). At the same time, demand in the UK decreased by 8.8%. It should also be noted that the new EU member states showed a noticeable increase of 12.5% during the specified period.
