Volvo is abandoning the development of new diesel engines and plans to remove all diesel versions from its model lineup in the future.
Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson told German journalists about the company's plans. The reason for abandoning engines on "heavy fuel" was the excessively high cost of bringing such motors into compliance with tightening environmental standards.
According to Samuelsson, by 2023 all diesel modifications will be discontinued, and their place will be taken by hybrid and electric versions.
