One of the reasons market participants cite is the May holidays. Experts, however, tend to believe that the decline in demand for new cars is linked to the liberalization of the used car market. After all, back in early May, many postponed buying a new car in anticipation of lower excise taxes on used cars, which deputies ultimately approved on May 31.
According to AUTO-Consulting, in May dealers sold 4.4 thousand new passenger cars, which is 21.5% worse than April figures, but still 54% better than the same period in 2015. Speaking of the past 5 months as a whole, the growth of the Ukrainian new car market was almost 56% compared to last year's data.
In May 2016, Toyota became the leader of the Ukrainian market. In second place is Volkswagen. Renault closes the top three most successful brands. As for sales, regardless of the reasons, one can only note the negative dynamics for almost all automakers (compared to April 2016).
