Experts studied 450 car models that have been rolling off assembly lines since 1997 and are currently in active use. Not only the frequency of breakdowns was taken into account, but also the costs of repairs and purchasing parts. The result was a reliability scale: the lower the number, the better the car.

Interestingly, the top three can actually be considered Japanese. The Opel Agila is essentially a rebadged Suzuki Wagon R+ under the German brand, albeit with a different powertrain. At the same time, the Agila wins over the Mitsubishi Lancer in maintenance costs, but loses to it in the rating due to a failure probability that is 3% higher.
