Roy Dyson became the owner of this Golf in May 2002. At that time, the odometer showed only 9,694 kilometers. Since then, the car has confirmed its reputation for "German reliability" and has worked flawlessly, giving its owner no trouble.
The first truly serious failure occurred for the Brit only after the mileage exceeded 483,000 kilometers — the alternator went out. During the entire operation, this is the only breakdown he can complain about. According to the owner, the car needs nothing but standard scheduled maintenance. He notes that oil consumption remains within acceptable limits, and the car consumes about 4–5 liters of fuel. At the same time, the same cylinder head as from the factory is still under the hood. Naturally, consumable items such as the clutch, hoses, and shock absorbers were replaced on schedule.
Now the speedometer of the VW Golf IV S TDI reads 725,000 kilometers, and Roy plans to "roll it back" to zero.
