Volkswagen Transporter: prices and specifications

2 generations Country of origin: Germany

Volkswagen Transporter is a minivan that replaced the famous T1 model. The model name comes from the Latin word "transporto," meaning "I carry."

First Generation (T1)

The first Transporter appeared in November 1949. This generation was produced for 25 years. In Brazil, the T1 model was manufactured until 1975.

Second Generation (T2)

The second generation debuted in 1967. Three years later, the car received front disc brakes, and two years after that, a new 1.7-liter engine with 66 hp, which could be paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Production in West Germany ended in 1979, but in Brazil it continued until 2014.

Third Generation (T3)

The third generation was released in 1979. In 1992, production of the third Transporter began in South Africa, where it continued until 2003. During its production run, the model gained many variations, including an off-road version with all-wheel drive.

Fourth Generation (T4)

1990 marked the release of the fourth generation Transporter (T4), which was revolutionary. Starting with this generation, the car received front-wheel drive, and the engine moved to the front (in previous versions, it was located above the rear axle).

Fifth Generation (T5)

The Transporter T5 was introduced in 2003 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Four years later, Volkswagen showed an updated version of the minivan with a longer wheelbase.

In 2010, the model underwent another facelift, during which it received a new radiator grille in a modern corporate style, as well as updated headlights and taillights.

The updated version of the Volkswagen Transporter began to be supplied to Ukraine in 2010.

The minivan is equipped with two engines — gasoline and diesel, both 2.0 liters. A 2.0-liter diesel with bi-turbocharging is also available. The engines are paired with a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission, or a 7-speed dual-clutch robotic transmission. Drive — front or all-wheel drive.
