Volkswagen Caravelle: prices and specifications

2 generations Country of origin: Germany

Volkswagen Caravelle

Volkswagen Caravelle is a passenger minivan with an increased level of comfort. The model name translates to "passenger liner."

The Caravelle first appeared as a standalone model in 1991. In 1997, the car underwent updates: the engine compartment was enlarged, the suspension became softer, and the equipment list included airbags, ABS, and disc brakes on all wheels. Even in the base version, the model had all available options at the time.

The next generation was released in 2003. In terms of design, the Caravelle began to resemble the luxury Multivan, and the range of available options expanded significantly. The model offered an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive 4Motion. Standard and long wheelbase versions were available.

In 2010, another facelift was carried out. The car received a new corporate-style grille, as well as updated headlights and taillights. Standard equipment included ESP stability control, airbags, and other safety systems. The options list added a rearview camera and lane departure warning.

The minivan is equipped with two 2.0-liter engines — gasoline and diesel. There is also a bi-turbo diesel version. The engines are paired with a five- or six-speed manual transmission, or a seven-speed dual-clutch robot. Drive is front or all-wheel.
