Question from Anton:
Kyiv, Sklyarenko Street. The road narrows: from three lanes two remain, as two lanes merge into one. There are no warning signs about the narrowing. Who has priority during mutual lane changing? The one on the right?

I was driving in the middle lane and did not yield to a car that was hurrying on the right, and as a result, a scratched mirror. Before that, I let a car on the right pass and decided that we were driving in a staggered order.
Answer from the experts of the Karat driving school.
The situation is not simple, and in our opinion, it is worth analyzing it from several sides.
1. Judging by the logic, before such a narrowing of the road there should be a sign 5.21.1 (end of the additional traffic lane). If this sign is present, drivers in the far right lane must yield (give way) to those moving in the middle lane. This is stated in paragraph 10, point 3: "When changing lanes, the driver must yield to vehicles moving in the same direction in the lane into which he intends to change." To resolve the issue of installing sign 5.21.1, you need to contact the police department of the Obolon district of Kyiv.
2. If there is no road sign, then, according to the law of Ukraine "On Road Traffic" (according to which we have right-hand traffic), we follow the "Convention on Road Traffic" adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. According to it, the vehicle that is driving at the right edge of the roadway has priority.
Result:
Since the sign "end of the additional traffic lane" is absent, the vehicle driving at the right edge of the roadway has priority.
