Question from Dmytro:
We are talking about the interchange on Moskovska Square. At the beginning of Chervonozorianyi Avenue, a U-turn is organized in the direction of Nauky Avenue. A line of cars and public transport forms up for it.

There are no signs indicating permitted directions by lane here; cars usually line up in two rows. The situation is aggravated by the fact that Druzhby Narodiv Avenue and Chervonozorianyi Lane adjoin this place, and opposite the U-turn there is a trolleybus stop. Those going straight along Chervonozorianyi have to stand in a traffic jam. Is it a violation of traffic rules when drivers line up for a U-turn from the middle lane?

Experts of the Karat driving school answer:
On this section of the road, there are no technical means of traffic organization — neither signs nor markings. Therefore, drivers in the middle lane violate the regulations: according to clause 10.4 of the traffic rules, a U-turn is performed from the extreme left position. For such a maneuver to be permissible here, there must be a sign 5.16 (lane direction) that would allow it. To avoid violating the rules, avoid the queue, and not provoke a traffic jam, it is worth making a U-turn at the next intersection, which is 200 meters away.

Conclusion:
They are violating. When there are no signs or markings, a U-turn is made from the left lane.
