The reason for such a large-scale recall was a camera defect, due to which the image on the multimedia system screen may be transmitted with distortions or not appear at all. Ford emphasizes that the cause is not in the software, but lies in a manufacturing defect of the camera itself. Therefore, the situation can only be corrected at a dealership, where the camera will be replaced at the manufacturer's expense.

The list of vehicles included in the recall includes Ford Flex (2015–2019), Explorer, Fusion (2016), Escape, C-Max, Taurus, Fiesta (2019), as well as some Lincoln models — MKT and MKZ. Partially, Mustang is also mentioned in the list.

This situation is also relevant for Ukrainian drivers, since the lion's share of used Fords on the local market are cars restored after accidents from the USA. There are already thousands of such cars on our roads — from Fusion and Escape to Explorer and Mustang. Many of them belong to those series that are currently being recalled.

For Ukrainians, a rear-view camera malfunction may seem insignificant, but it directly affects traffic safety. When restoring a car after an accident, this system is often installed from non-original parts or even disabled altogether. If an American Ford has traces of an accident in the past, and the camera does not work or fails when reversing — this may be exactly the defect for which a mass service campaign is currently being conducted in the USA.
