People's deputies supported in the first reading a draft law aimed at bringing Ukrainian excise taxes on fuel closer to the minimum standards established in the European Union.
According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the parliament adopted as a basis the alternative document No. 11256-2 — 227 people's deputies voted for it. At the same time, the other two draft laws, No. 11256 and No. 11256-1, did not find sufficient support: 212 and 218 deputies voted for them respectively, so they were rejected.
Document No. 11256-2 proposes a gradual increase in excise tax rates for various types of fuel, which will last until January 1, 2028. After the transition period ends, the tax on gasoline will reach 359 euros per thousand liters, on diesel fuel — 330 euros per thousand liters, and on liquefied gas — 70 euros per thousand liters. The start of the transition stage is planned for July 1, 2024.
Earlier, on May 31, the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada on finance, tax and customs policy approved the government initiative to amend the Tax Code, aimed at harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with EU norms in the field of excise taxation.
