AvtoVAZ has not been sending car kits to the Zaporizhia Automobile Plant (ZAZ) for two months now, where screwdriver assembly of Lada has been carried out since 2020. Moreover, Lada models are completely absent from the enterprise's production plans for 2022.
The Avtograd News public page on VKontakte reports that cooperation between AvtoVAZ and ZAZ has been suspended. The Zaporizhia publication 061.ua contacted Dmytro Sklyarenko, press secretary of the UkrAVTO corporation, for comment. He confirmed that in the coming year ZAZ does not plan to produce Lada, and the main efforts will be directed at assembling Kia Rio, Rio X, and Renault Arkana — though also from kits supplied from Russia.
Production of Lada cars at the Zaporizhia enterprise started in the spring of 2020. The assembly was carried out under an agreement between ZAZ and Groupe Renault, which owns a controlling stake in AvtoVAZ.
At AvtoVAZ itself, the information about the cessation of Lada production in Ukraine is called nothing more than rumors.
