In total, from 2001 to 2021, almost 825 thousand new SUV vehicles were sold in Ukraine. Given that the country sold 3.86 million passenger cars in total (over the same period), the share of SUVs amounted to an impressive 21.3%.

In 2001-2004, the undisputed leader of the domestic market was Lada 4x4 (also known as Niva). In 2005, it gave way to the Chevrolet Niva, and in 2006 it took gold again. Then came the era of Hyundai: the Tucson crossover sold better than others from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, the Nissan Qashqai made its mark, and after that, the Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4, and Renault Duster competed for first place, taking turns. Overall, the picture looks like this:

As for the leaders in sales volumes, the most sought-after SUVs among Ukrainians were:

  • Hyundai Tucson – 43.1 thousand (5.2% of all SUVs sold)
  • Toyota RAV4 – 41.8 thousand
  • Kia Sportage – 41.6 thousand

Autoconsulting emphasized that crossovers and SUVs are becoming increasingly popular in Ukraine: at the beginning of 2021, they accounted for 73.4% of the entire new car market.
