Researchers conducted a survey among 34 thousand drivers from the 24 largest cities of Ukraine. It turned out that the majority of motorists — from 52% to 85% depending on the locality — ignore seat belts.

The most disciplined were residents of Kyiv: 48.2% of them always buckle up. Slightly less responsible are drivers in Lviv (40.2%), Cherkasy (34.5%) and Dnipro (33.2%).

The worst situation with belts is in Kropyvnytskyi, where only 15% of motorists buckle up. Slightly better indicators are in Sievierodonetsk (15.1%) and Chernivtsi (17.4%).

It is worth noting that according to other statistics, a seat belt reduces the probability of death in a severe accident by 70%, while an airbag reduces this risk by only 20%. In a frontal collision, the belt reduces mortality by 2.3 times, in a side impact — by 1.8 times, and in a rollover — by as much as 5 times. For comparison: in European countries, more than 90% of drivers use belts, who realize their importance.
