According to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, on January 22, 2.7 thousand vehicles with foreign license plates were cleared. The owners of these cars paid 170.5 million hryvnias in payments to the budget.

From November 25, 2018 to January 22, 2019 inclusive, almost 44 thousand cars with euro plates passed through customs. This refers to vehicles imported into the territory of Ukraine from January 1, 2015 until the introduction of new rules for their import, and which were in temporary import or transit regimes. In total, about 2.8 billion hryvnias were paid for these vehicles.

Of the total number of cleared cars, 36.7 thousand are vehicles that were on the Ukrainian customs territory in violation of the requirements of the Customs Code of Ukraine. For them, owners voluntarily transferred 312 million hryvnias, that is, 8,500 for each car. Such payment allowed them to avoid administrative liability for non-compliance with the conditions of customs regimes when importing a car with foreign registration, if the terms and conditions of its import were met.

It is worth noting that on February 22, 2019, the preferential period ends, during which a reduced excise tax rate (coefficient 0.5) applies when clearing cars with foreign license plates.
