The press service of Ukravtodor reported that the prepared draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers is aimed at reducing accidents by limiting the maximum speed of cars. The document, as noted, is titled "Introducing European Road Safety Standards."
According to the proposal, within the boundaries of Ukrainian populated areas, the permissible driving speed should be reduced from 60 to 50 km/h.
However, at night, from 23:00 to 6:00, cars in cities and villages will be allowed to drive no faster than 60 km/h.
The head of the State Agency of Motor Roads, Slavomir Novak, explained that in Europe, road safety is considered a priority. According to him, reducing speed by just 10 km/h in populated areas helps save lives in 90% of accidents. He also emphasized that bringing Ukrainian legislation in line with European standards is an important step that will help save many lives.
