As it turned out from conversations with representatives of importers and dealerships, many of them will have to revise car prices in the very near future. The changes will affect prices expressed in hryvnia. Depending on the specific make and model, the increase could range from 5 to 10 percent, and in some cases even more.

The principle of recalculation is quite obvious. Most sellers of new cars will factor into the price an exchange rate increased by one hryvnia per dollar. For clarity, we can take an example: just yesterday a car was valued at 20 thousand dollars, and its price, even at a fixed, rather than market, rate (say, 15.49 UAH), was 309 thousand hryvnias. Now calculations are based on $1=16.49 UAH. As a result, the same car that cost 309 thousand will be sold tomorrow for 329,800 UAH.
