Mazda Motor Corporation has unveiled its latest sports car with a rotary engine. The prototype is styled in line with the new models and showcases a future that, according to the Japanese, may one day become reality: a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car with unique KODO-style proportions, equipped with a new-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine.

The mention of the rotary engine deserves special attention. After all, today Mazda is the only automaker that has not abandoned the Wankel engine. Despite its simple design and small displacement, such a unit is capable of producing impressive power. However, most customers are wary of the rotary because it is not known for good repairability. Nevertheless, Mazda is actively working on improving the design and intends to show the fruits of its labor soon.

"I look forward to meeting you for a more detailed discussion of the vision of the future that we have shown today at the Mazda stand," said Masamichi Kogai, Representative Director, President and CEO of Mazda. "In our quest to establish a special connection with our customers and become their 'one and only' brand, Mazda is ready to take on any challenges."

Mazda plans to release a new rotary sports car in 2017-2018. And if it looks like the concept, you'll agree, its future could be very bright and promising.
