The developer states that this system is intended primarily for LED optics, which by itself does not heat up enough to melt stuck snow or an ice crust.

The transparent ring automatically starts heating when the ambient air temperature drops below five degrees Celsius. The heater can be powered from the ignition wire or from any other compatible source, including the turn signal power supply. Power consumption is about 5 W per side.

PIAA's development was first reported a year ago, but now the device has gone on sale and costs from 16 thousand yen (less than 4 thousand hryvnias). By the time of the market launch, the technology was refined: initially the film heated only to 50 degrees Celsius, but then the temperature was increased to 60 degrees. In addition, it became possible to connect the device to a 24-volt on-board power system, which is often found in trucks and hybrids.
