The Subaru Levorg competed (for the JNCAP Best Award 2020) with such "excellent students" as the Toyota Harrier, Nissan Dayz, Toyota Yaris, and Honda Fit. This quartet also earned "fives," but it was the Levorg that performed best of all – out of 190 possible points, it scored 186.91 – no other car has managed to achieve such a result.

The Safest Japanese Car

The Subaru Levorg received high marks both in terms of crash safety and "preventive activities" (thanks to systems that help avoid accidents). In the first case, the car scored 96.91 points out of 100, in the second – 82 out of 82 possible.

How was it tested?

The wagon was subjected to various impacts. In particular, two frontal collisions were performed – at a speed of 64 km/h against a "fragile" barrier with 40% overlap and at a speed of 55 km/h against a rigid barrier. In addition, the tests included side impacts, simulation of a rear-end collision, checking seats for injury safety (possibility of whiplash, etc.), simulation of a pedestrian collision, and evaluation of passive and active safety systems.

What is it good at?

The car easily handled the obstacles, but the experts were most impressed by the pedestrian airbags, which are available in all trim levels of the Levorg. Judging by the video, when a collision occurs, they deploy from under the hood and cover the roof pillars, thereby providing a person with a soft (relatively) landing. JNCAP also noted the presence of an advanced emergency call system.

The Subaru Levorg has been produced since 2014, and its second generation, which, in fact, became the safest Japanese car, has been produced since 2020. The wagon is built on the basis of the Impreza, and it is supplied with only one engine – a 1.8-liter turbocharged boxer with 177 hp and 300 Nm. The engine is paired with a Lineartronic CVT, the drive is 4x4, with a clutch for connecting the rear axle.

In its homeland in Japan, the price of the Subaru Levorg starts at just under 28.5 thousand dollars. The model is not officially presented in Ukraine.

Interestingly, the JNCAP Best Award 2020 is not the first award that the Subaru Levorg has received recently. Earlier, this car was awarded the title of Car of the Year in Japan 2020-2021.
