This spring, Yandex conducted the first tests of its autonomous prototype at a closed testing ground. Now it's time to check how the autopilot handles snowfall. This time, the autonomous Kia Soul joined the driverless Toyota Prius vehicles.
The road markings hidden under the snow were not an obstacle for Yandex's autopilot system — cameras and lidars successfully performed their functions, and the prototypes confidently followed the route, correctly reacting to pedestrians, signs, and traffic lights.
The next step is testing driverless taxis in real urban traffic conditions. They are planned for next year.
