Daimler's lead engineer Jurgen Schenk, who oversees Mercedes-Benz electric model projects, shared the company's plans in an interview with the Australian portal CarAdvice.
He said the German manufacturer intends to double battery capacity every five years. This exceeds Tesla's similar goals by 280 percent.
"Musk is not as visionary as commonly believed. We invented the car, and we know how to build it," Schenk emphasized.
The company adds that they are effectively starting an international competition in technology that could stretch over several decades.
