The winner in the "Engine of the Year" category was Ferrari's 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 670 horsepower. This unit is installed on the 488 GTB sports car and also received awards in the categories "Best New Engine," "Best Performance Engine," and "Best Engine from Three to Four Liters."

The second position was taken by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, which is part of the BMW i8 hybrid system. A year earlier, it was this engine that topped the ranking of the best engines. Third place went to Porsche's six-cylinder turbocharged unit.

Among more affordable powertrains, the leaders were the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine from PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford's 1.0-liter engine. The title of the best "green" engine was awarded to Tesla's electric powertrain.
