The initial version of the founder of a whole class of cars will have a hybrid powertrain. It is known that it will include a 1-liter turbo engine with 115 horsepower, an electrically driven supercharger, a set of lead-acid batteries, and a generator coupled with a starter.
Such a powertrain layout will allow additional spinning of the crankshaft, adding power and increasing torque. The energy accumulated by the batteries will additionally be supplied not only to the starter-generator but also to the electric supercharger.
If Volkswagen implements what it has planned, the fuel consumption of the VW Golf with such a setup will be at the level of the current turbo diesel models of the brand.
