According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), such a malfunction can cause the vehicle to move on its own and increases the likelihood of a traffic accident if the driver does not engage the parking brake.
The recall campaign covers Volkswagen ID.4 models from 2021–2023, as well as Audi Q4 e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron Sportback from 2022–2023.
Volkswagen has not yet disclosed a specific plan to fix the defect, but in similar situations, a free inspection and software update or replacement of components is usually provided. Owners will receive official letters with instructions to contact an authorized dealer.
It is worth noting that although the Volkswagen ID.4 is among the most sought-after electric cars in Ukraine, there are no official deliveries of this model — it is offered exclusively by unofficial importers who do not provide warranty obligations. Therefore, this or any other service campaign does not cover Ukrainian owners of such vehicles in any way.
