As found out at the Avto.pro marketplace, where it is easy to find VAZ spare parts and other brands, the price of the SUV for European buyers will start from €12,000.
New design and more
The new generation Niva will be built on the CMF-B platform, the brainchild of Renault-Nissan engineers. Earlier, representatives of the AvtoVAZ concern stated that the platform would have to be seriously refined, as it is not intended for full-fledged SUVs. This raised concerns that the Niva would turn into an ordinary crossover. The most important parameters of the future car were declassified:
- Geometry. The body length will be 4280 mm with a wheelbase of 2600 mm;
- Engine lineup. It will include a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine from Daimler and a 1.8-liter petrol engine from AvtoVAZ;
- Body options. 3- and 5-door SUVs will be available.
AvtoVAZ representatives clarified that after the launch of production of the new Niva, the concern will establish assembly of the long-wheelbase version of the SUV. It is tentatively called Grand Niva, but by the time sales start in 2025-2026, the name may be changed. All versions of the car will boast high ground clearance, a more modern design, an increased level of comfort, and an all-wheel drive system.
SUV or crossover
Conceptually and in terms of internal "filling", the successor to the Niva family strongly resembles several car models from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance (and Romanian Dacia in particular). There is nothing surprising here, because the Lada and Dacia brands are now parts of one business division. The Dacia Bigster crossover has already been called the prototype of the future Lada Niva, which will receive the same CMF-B platform.
AvtoVAZ representatives are reluctant to comment on rumors that the Niva will cease to be an SUV. According to Nicolas Maure, head of the concern, the new product will not be inferior to the Land Rover Defender in off-road capability. Its closest competitors will be... SUVs from the same alliance. The CMF-B platform is distinguished by its simplicity and reliability – very much in the spirit of the Niva family – however, the concern chose it because of the possibility of reducing the development time of new car models.
