Creating the new project cost Rockstar studio not only a hefty sum but also years of hard work — almost eight years. The first teaser trailer appeared in 2016, and only two years later the game finally hit store shelves.
Those who are used to spending their free time on video games definitely shouldn't miss this release — there are several reasons for that.
What makes Red Dead Redemption 2 notable
The new work by the creators of GTA V promises a wealth of impressions thanks to a number of details:
- The game world is detailed down to the smallest elements.
- The atmosphere of the Wild West during its decline (19th century) is conveyed very vividly: endless prairies, wild horses, iconic weapons, and colorful saloons.
- The little things are thought out to such an extent that horses shy away from gunshots during shootouts.
- The game world is open, and every decision can come back with unexpected consequences.
- The storyline captivates and holds your attention seriously and for a long time.
- The playthrough will be long — if a typical single-player campaign fits into 20–30 hours, here it will take a full 70. Impressions will be more than enough.
- The online component. Even after completing all missions, you won't have to part with the game: the developers promised the launch of a network mode where you can team up with friends, engage in gang fights, shootouts, and cooperative tasks.
- Inspiring press reviews. The game received almost maximum scores from journalists, scoring 97 out of 100 and becoming the leader of 2018 by a wide margin.
What the game is about
The action takes place in 1899. The industrial revolution is already changing American cities, and the era of cowboys is coming to an end. The characters themselves realize this and jokingly call themselves the last savages of America.
It is then that the story of Arthur Morgan begins — the central hero, a member of a dangerous gang led by Dutch. Arthur is not averse to shootouts, bank robberies, and train heists. In his free time, he prefers to spend evenings in saloons over bourbon in the company of local ladies. But the usual way of life collapses after another robbery goes wrong, and Morgan and his comrades have to flee. What follows is a daily struggle for survival: thefts, shootouts, chases from federal agents and bounty hunters.
In addition to external threats, the hero is tormented by internal struggles: he has to choose between loyalty to his loved ones and his own principles.
At the same time, the plot develops according to a pre-written script, and the player is not given the chance to influence the course of events.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, you should be ready for:
- A leisurely, sometimes even drawn-out start;
- A large number of meaningful conversations, and sometimes empty talk about nothing;
- Dangerous shootouts;
- Mini-games like fishing, poker, or even taking a bath;
- Mysteries and unexpected encounters;
- Special missions.
This most expensive authorial project in the history of games will appeal to both newcomers and experienced players. Even if westerns are not in your circle of interests, the harsh atmosphere of that era, riders with revolvers, and the lawlessness around will leave no one indifferent.
True, there is a nuance: the game was released exclusively on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, so to get acquainted with it, you may have to get a console.
