Geely, taking into account current customer demands and market trends, has announced a new mid-size sedan, the Geely Emgrand GL, which continues the development of the Emgrand family and expands the current model lineup. The unveiling was held in a congress hall, the same venue that previously hosted the G20 summit, using augmented reality technologies.
The exterior of the Emgrand GL, which was worked on by an international team of stylists led by Vice President of Design Peter Horbury, is executed in a new corporate style, now common to all Geely products. The designers were tasked with finding a harmony between dynamism, elegance, and character, and judging by the result, they succeeded. Inside, the car impresses with spaciousness thanks to its large dimensions: length reaches 4725 mm, width is 1800 mm, and the wheelbase is an impressive 2700 mm, ensuring comfort even for tall passengers in the second row.
Under the hood, the sedan will offer two powertrain options: a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine producing 129 horsepower, and a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine with 133 hp, which is well-suited for driving in dense traffic. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic (6-DCT), allowing for fuel consumption of about 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers. By the way, the 1.3T engine has already earned the title of "Engine of the Year" in China, winning in its class for the combination of power and efficiency.
The interior uses high-quality materials, which increases the level of comfort for all occupants. The seats are upholstered in combined leather, and the front seats are equipped with electric adjustments. The car features an air filtration and purification system. The G-link multimedia system allows connecting smartphones on iOS and Android and controlling them via a 7-inch screen, and also provides navigation, high-speed internet access, and access to entertainment content. The driver also has access to an engine start button and a keyless entry system.
Safety, as always, remains a priority for Geely, and the Emgrand GL fully complies with this principle. The model is equipped with a modern set of active and passive safety systems: six airbags, adaptive cruise control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), electric power steering (EPS), surround-view cameras, heated mirrors with anti-fog function, and a number of other technologies.
In Ukraine, the presentation of the Geely Emgrand GL is scheduled for 2017.
