It is expected that a mid-size electric all-wheel drive crossover will appear in 2021. It will be built on the basis of the next generation Forester or Outback, which in turn will be based on the global modular SGP (Subaru Global Platform) chassis.

It is possible that the new SUV will be styled after the Viziv concept car. The prototype, which debuted in October 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show, was intended to demonstrate the new design direction of the Japanese brand.
The modular SGP platform debuted on the new generation Impreza hatchback and sedan. The chassis, on which all future Subaru models will be built, will increase the rigidity of the cars' structures by 70 percent and reduce body roll by 50 percent. Based on SGP, it will be possible to develop cars of different sizes and use various types of powertrains: both standard internal combustion engines, as well as hybrid and fully electric ones.
