Photo spies were lucky to capture the car during test runs. The production version of the new model will be presented to the public in 2018, as Autoexpress reports. In the company's lineup, this car will be positioned one step below the XC60. Among the main rivals of the crossover are the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The spy shots show only a test mule based on the V40, on which company specialists are checking the units of the future model. The prototype stands out with widened wheel arches, increased ground clearance, and large alloy wheels.

The new model will be based on the CMA platform, which was developed jointly with the parent company Geely. On the same architecture, it is also planned to create a junior sedan in the model range, which will likely be called the S40. It is worth noting that for a long time the question of launching the car into production remained open due to the lack of a suitable platform. The engine lineup will include three- and four-cylinder engines. In addition, the XC40 will receive a hybrid powertrain. Other technical details are not yet disclosed.

At the same time, Volvo continues to test the new generation of the XC60 crossover. Its premiere is scheduled for next year. Subsequently, a sporty modification called Polestar will also be presented.
