Future cars of the National Electric Vehicle (NEVS) consortium will be produced under a new brand, the NEVS press service reports.

"With sincere respect for our history and heritage, we want to be recognized as an independent brand" offering environmentally responsible mobility solutions, "and we want to create favorable conditions for sustainable growth under our own brand," said NEVS CEO Mattias Bergman.

Earlier, company representatives stated that they decided to focus on creating electric vehicles and developing new technologies. The first model will be a restyled version of the Saab 9-3 with an electric motor. Production of the car will begin in 2017, and the first market where sales will start will be China.

The first completely new NEVS car will appear in 2018. The company has already announced its intention to create four new models (three SUVs and a sporty fastback) built on the Phoenix platform, which Saab was developing before its bankruptcy.

It should be noted that NEVS's head office and main engineering center are located in Trollhättan, Sweden, where the SAAB automobile division's plant and headquarters were historically located. The company is building plants in the development and design centers in Tianjin and Fujian (China).
