In city cycle testing, the new Prius showed a result of 5.47 liters per 100 kilometers according to Consumer Reports. On suburban highways at a speed of 104 kilometers per hour (or 65 miles per hour), the hybrid powertrain consumed an average of 3.99 liters per 100 kilometers — this surpasses the figures of any diesel car that has ever participated in the publication's tests.

According to Consumer Reports, the previous generation Toyota Prius had an average fuel consumption of 5.35 liters per 100 kilometers. The previous record figure — 4.61 liters per 100 kilometers — was set in 2000 by the Honda Insight model.
